As a second-year trainee solicitor at a full-service law firm with strong practice in litigation and corporate matters, I am at the very front line of my firm to "taste" how powerful the Lexis Advance^® Hong Kong platform is. Since one of the main duties of my job is to provide legal research support to my supervisors, it is a daily routine for me to browse and navigate different online legal research platforms. Among the various ground-breaking features of the new Lexis Advance^® Hong Kong platform, I am particularly pleased with the following improvements, namely (1) top-notch searching capabilities; (2) one-stop shop for information and precedents; and (3) user-friendly interface. The new Lexis Advance^® Hong Kong it simply allows users to access information more easily and quickly. When compared to the previous Lexis HK (and other legal research platforms such as Westlaw), Lexis Advance^® Hong Kong definitely has the strongest and smartest legal search engine: it categorizes complicated legal topics in a highly user-friendly and clear manner. More importantly, I find the filters therein are so acute that my searches can be narrowed down effectively and efficiently. Apart from the edge-cutting search capabilities, I also find that incorporating the Practical Guidance into Lexis Advance^® Hong Kong a highly valuable and clever move. Among those countless hours that I have spent in navigating online legal research platforms, some were arguably "wasted" because of the fact that I had to switch from one platform to another to look for different types of reference materials, ranging from legal news, business new to latest legislations, case laws, commentary to precedents and flowcharts. Do not underestimate the time and effort spent involved in switching from one platform to another - it is commonly cited as one of the "most painful tasks" of trainees and young lawyers at RME courses! While the two features mentioned above are clearly directly designed for improving efficiency in getting information, I would say that improving the user-friendliness of the home page also has the indirect effect in doing so. In particular, I like the "star" function which allows me to add to my preferred filters to the Favourites list. It saves me a lot of my time and effort! I also like the "History" function as I can go back to my previous findings easily, which even has a filter which allows me to narrow down my recollection process! It happens from time to time that I would close a window with search results that I need accidently. I may also forget what keywords that I have typed in, and wasted time in doing the same search again and again. Having this thoughtful "History" function really saves me from a lot of troubles! To conclude, I am very satisfied with the new Lexis Advance^® Hong Kong platform, and I truly believe that it will soon become a new benchmark of online legal research platforms in Hong Kong. A new era of legal researches has begun!
