Kim McCoy 麥劍祺

Hong Kong Animal Law and Protection Organisation (HKALPO)

McCoy became a barrister in Hong Kong and New Zealand in 2011 and 2016 respectively. He believes that denying legal protection and rights to vulnerable classes is inherently wrong and that animals are just another vulnerable class that is in dire need of our protection. As a strong supporter of animal rights, McCoy wanted to do something as a Hong Kong barrister that would contribute meaningfully to society. Hence, he founded the Hong Kong Animal Law and Protection Organisation (HKALPO) in 2020.

HKALPO was started by McCoy as a single-person organisation, and it has since grown significantly with its membership and support group. This is partly through advocacy in Courts, as well as giving talks and seminars on the value of animal law. He believes that it’s important for people to learn about the issues plaguing animals and also why we must continue to speak for the voiceless. McCoy has since incorporated HKALPO and is applying for charitable status in Hong Kong.

McCoy has spoken to all levels of Hong Kong society on animal-related issues. These include schools, law students and legal professionals. McCoy has given talks to the public on rules and regulations pet owners should be aware of in Hong Kong. He has also spoken on different media outlets, such as CNN, BBC and HKIBC, about various animal-related issues.

McCoy currently shares his home in New Zealand with over 40 peacocks.

麥劍祺（Kim McCoy）分別於 2011 年和 2016 年在香港和紐西蘭擔任律師。他認為，否認弱勢群體的法律保護和權利本質上是錯誤的，動物只是另一個急需我們保護的弱勢群體。作為動物權利的堅定支持者，Kim希望以香港大律師的身份為社會做出有意義的貢獻。因此，他於 2020 年創立了香港動物法律及保護組織 (HKALPO)。

HKALPO 由 Kim 創立，是一個單人組織，此後憑藉其成員和支持團隊顯著發展。這部分是通過在法庭上進行宣傳，以及就動物法的價值舉辦講座和研討會實現的。他認為，讓人們了解困擾動物的問題，以及為什麼我們必須繼續為無聲者發聲是很重要的。 Kim 已成立 HKALPO 並正在香港申請慈善身份。

Kim就動物相關問題與香港社會各階層進行了交談。其中包括學校、法學院學生和法律專業人士。Kim就寵物主人在香港應注意的規則和規定向公眾發表了講話。他還在不同的媒體機構（如 CNN、BBC 和 HKIBC）上就各種與動物有關的問題發表過演講。

Kim目前與 40 多只孔雀住在他在紐西蘭的家。
