Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance has been influenced by the UK, AUS, NZ data privacy laws and the EU Directive 95/46/EC. The EU Directive was repealed by The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Regulation (EU) 2016/679 which came into force on 24 May 2016. GDPR is more prescriptive on the requirements for obtaining consent, such as its definition, obtaining methods and status of implied consent. Insights could be drawn for the future development of PDPO.
